Google announce that Mobile-Friendly sites will contribute to their SERP ranking algorithm

Well it’s inevitable that the search engine giant Google would finally be using mobile-friendly factors in their search engine results page (SERP) ranking algorithm. Matt Cutts announced a number of years ago that Google would eventually be giving “bonus points” to sites that offered a mobile version in the bid to increase overall user experience. This is just one of the many routes Google has gone down to make the web a better place and more user friendly.

The Mobile-Friendly factors go hand in hand with Optimised Web pages and this means that SEO is no longer about cramming key words within Heading tags to increase your organic rank in Google, It’s much more sophisticated and evolves daily to give you the user the best and most relevant results to your searches.

What did Google announce on the 26th Feb?

“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.”

Thankfully like their page optimisation tool they have introduced the mobile-friendly page test which highlights areas of improvement on your site.

How can I go Mobile-Friendly?

There are many ways that we can look at creating mobile sites, some are to recreate sites that have additional pages built for mobile or the past couple of years we’ve seen a huge increase in responsive platforms such as Twitters Bootstrap which works fantastically with WordPress CMS.
