In 1996 I gained an excellent contact which allowed me to create several children's annuals for Christmas 1996. The Gladiators one stands out the most.....

Look what we designed back in 1996 – Gladiators Annual

Whilst having a sort out in the office yesterday, we stumbled across a gem from the archives—our design for the official Gladiators annual from 1996. This project holds a special place in our memories, not just for what we created, but for the journey it took to get there.

Back then, we were working on an Apple Mac Performa 475, upgraded with a whole 8MB of RAM (which felt like a lot at the time!). We were racing against a tight deadline, finalising the last few pages late at night, with a meeting scheduled with the publisher first thing the next morning. And, just when we thought we were almost done… disaster struck. The old Mac crashed, leaving a corrupt file that couldn’t be reopened.

With no choice but to start over, we worked through the night, determined to meet the deadline. After a few long nights and some serious problem-solving, we finally got it done.

Looking back, it’s moments like these that remind us how far we’ve come. Those late nights, working under pressure, navigating the quirks of early technology—challenging, but somehow, they were also the good old days.
